As our french door refrigerator reviews prove, advanced features are even better if you have all of the basic amenities first. The GE GFE29HSDSS has all the basics covered and a few of the advanced features we looked for. GE has several series of french door refrigerators, but this model is the most advanced fridge in the self-named GE series. This fridge has a total capacity of 28.6 cubic feet – one of the largest refrigerators we looked at. The refrigerated section has 19.6 cubic feet of space and the freezer has 9 cubic feet, both of which are very spacious. This fridge also comes in three different color options: stainless steel, black and white.
Inside the refrigerated compartment are five spill-proof shelves. The spill proofing prevents messes from spreading to another shelf. Four of the shelves are adjustable and can move up and down within the compartment so you can customize the space. One of the adjustable shelves is also adaptable and can slide out of the way of tall containers. In the refrigerated compartment, you will also find two produce crispers with adjustable humidity levels, as well as a full-width drawer with adjustable temperature. This drawer has a sliding divider to help organize the space and is good for storing meats and cheeses.
This GE french door fridge has two icemakers for fast ice production. One icemaker is in the freezer and the other is in the left-side door to the refrigerated compartment. The icemaker in the door is an icemaking system designed to be narrow and take up very little space on the door. This icemaker connects to the through-the-door ice and water dispenser. Having the icemaker in the door frees up space in the refrigerated compartment, and GE even put shelves on the outside of the icemaker so that space is not wasted. This gives you seven door bins including a dairy compartment and two bins capable of storing gallon-sized containers.
The freezer is a drawer under the refrigerated compartment. The freezer has two tiers of drawers inside with a total of three bins. One bin is dedicated to catching the ice from the second icemaker. Unfortunately, the bin is not removable. If you want a portable ice bin, you will have to use the one in the door icemaker. The other two freezer bins are your basic plastic bins that don't have any sort of organization or separation of any kind. With the options in the refrigerated compartment, this lack of organization options in the freezer is disappointing.
With this freezer, you have spill-proof adjustable shelves, door bins, humidity-controlled crisper bins and an ice and water dispenser all accounted for. You get a full-width drawer with adjustable temperature, and you get two icemakers. The GE fridge has both basic and advanced features; however, the lack of organization in the freezer comes as a disappointing surprise.
You can adjust the humidity inside the crisper bins and the temperature inside the full-width drawer.
The freezer does not give you many organization options.
This is a great refrigerator for a large family and has plenty of the advanced amenities we looked for. The price point is still a little high, though.
